For this project I used black construction paper and an exacto-knife to create my own style of Japanese Notan. I picked up lots of knowledge about positive and negative shapes, symmetry, and got some great practice with precise craftsmanship. 

For my final design, I chose to depict a symmetrical lotus flower graphic using the notan style. Here is my final result:
